Harriet Pearce
I am in the second year of my PhD in the interdisciplinary Molecular Analytical Science CDT at the University of Warwick. My background is in Mathematics.
After completing my undergraduate degree, I gained qualified teacher status and taught Mathematics in a secondary school in Coventry for two years before joining the MAS CDT.
PhD Project
The title of my PhD project is Quantitative Visualisation of Dissolution and Crystallisation: Size, Mass Transport, Kinetic and Surface Effects in Particulate Ensembles, supervised by Prof. Pat Unwin in the Electrochemistry and Interfaces Group at Warwick and Dr John Hone at Syngenta. The project is also in collaboration with AstraZeneca and Pfizer.

MSc Mini Projects
My first mini project (experimental) supervisors were Prof. Pat Unwin in the Electrochemistry and Interfaces Group at Warwick and Dr John Hone at Syngenta. The focus of the project was investigating the dissolution of calcite microcrystals using a multimicroscopy approach, combining optical microscopy and scanning ion conductance microscopy. Please see here for the publication.
My second mini project (theoretical) was supervised by Prof. Steven Brown in the Solid State NMR Group at Warwick and Dr Matthew Reid at Syngenta. The title of the project was - Application of Solid-State Characterisation Approaches to Fungicides. I compared density functional theory calculations of NMR chemical shifts with experimental chemical shifts to confirm the structure of a cocrystal of two common fungicides. Please see here for the publication.
Other Information
I am a member of the British Association for Crystal Growth.
I was the Chair of the Chemistry Postgraduate Student Staff Liason Committee (SSLC) and the Secretary of the MAS/MOAC SSLC for the academic year 2015/2016. I was also the MAS MSc SSLC representative for the 2014/2015 academic year.
Interests
I play canoe polo as a member of the university club and I enjoy climbing.
